Safe Space and Self-Regulation for Autism

Your donations finally made it to our classroom! It was the perfect timing for the start of the school year. We were so excited to receive them. Our calm down area now is equipped with supplies and materials that would help facilitate social and emotional learning of my students with autism.

Faced with various sensory needs, students enjoy getting input from touch boards, sensory sphere, weighted bear, fidget toys and chewy necklaces. The magnetic tiles and sensory bins are also a big hit. They also help my students develop their waiting and turn-taking skills. The visuals allow them to express their emotions. It also provides reminders and choices of appropriate replacement behaviors when they feel upset or overwhelmed.
