Hands-On Learning Is Engaging For High School Science Classrooms
Funded Jun 10, 2024When I told my students that someone from our community donated money to support our classroom learning they were so excited! Your donations not only excited the students it excited me! I use various teaching strategies in an attempt to get all my students engaged. Some students like lecture, some reading and others drawing, but all students learn when given the opportunity to be an active part of that learning.
My Anatomy II students were doing a blood typing lab the day we received the nitrile gloves and when the students saw that the gloves were black and not blue like most of the gloves you see in doctors' offices and hospitals they were even more excited to use them and to complete the lab. The new dissection kits you donated are so nice. The current instruments at our school are old and broken and that makes them unsafe to use with students. My anatomy students will be dissecting sheep hearts, kidneys, brains and fetal pigs this year and these new kits will make the learning experience for them more positive.
Learning the microscopic concepts associated with Biology can be difficult. I have found that the 3D Molecular Designs kits are phenomenal. The new 3D models are allowing students to identify the structure and function of the cell membrane, chromosomes, and the genetic flow of information (the central DOGMA). These models are a game changer in student engagement and learning. Thank you for giving back to your community. Thank you for giving the students in my classroom the opportunity to have a more positive experience and hopefully a lifelong love for science.”
With gratitude,
Mrs. Darnold
