  • "A Creative Space for Creative Minds"

    Funded Aug 27, 2024

Thank you so much for contributing to my scholars and I. I have created a reading corner where my students can go and read SEL books when we are done with counseling classroom lessons. They love to see and read books that are relatable. They also like going to the reading corner to sit down on the bing bag chairs to calm down and recognize what feelings they are feeling according to the feelings wheel.

When my students first saw the materials they immediately wanted to go to the reading corner. They ask can they sit in the corner or grab a book every time they are in my classroom. I reference the feelings tapestry during my classroom lessons, so they interact with the reading corner every time they are in my class. They also love the books! Many of my students are reading above grade level, so having books that challenge them and help expand their knowledge about themselves and others is great!

The next step for my students is to complete a community service project. While collecting donations for the Mississippi Children's Hospital, students will have to plan their own community service project and identify needs in their community that need to be met.”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Carroll

  • Computer Science for Underrepresented Youth: Equity in Computer Science Education

    Funded Aug 3, 2024

Thank you so much for your contribution to my scholars and our computer science class. Our computer science class, also known as a special, has only been apart of our academic schedule since the 2023-2024 school year. Your donation of books, robots, and workbooks has upgraded our class, and made computer science enjoyable for all.

Your contribution has not only given us more resources, but also has helped me as a teacher become more organized. As a teacher, I no longer have to search the internet for computer science work and material because I have great workbooks and books that help me educate on and practice computer science concepts. Our scholars are very involved with social media and technology, and expanding their knowledge on the history of computers and how computer science affects our world has been great. Also teaching them how to be digital citizens, understanding digital footprints, and internet safety has helped me understand the importance of computer science class starting in elementary.

Again, thank you so much for helping me and my scholars have a great school year! Your passion for education is not only helping our scholars but also building future leaders everyday.”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Carroll
