Funded Nov 4, 2024New books in the classroom are truly a "magical door" for special education students. By offering a variety of stories, genres, and formats, you are providing students with the tools to improve their vocabulary, comprehension, and critical thinking while also allowing them to explore new worlds and ideas. Most importantly, you're giving them the opportunity to discover the joy of reading—an experience that can change their lives and open doors to limitless possibilities. With your dedication, the journey of reading can indeed become magical for every student.
Comprehension is so important for our students in special education because we see a high number of students who are not comprehending what they are reading. Reading books in my classroom is built through guided reading, where students answer questions about what they've read, make predictions, and summarize the story.
New books have the potential to significantly enhance the reading experience for special education students by offering materials that cater to their diverse needs and interests which enhances comprehension.”
With gratitude,
