Learning Character Skills with A Little Spot Series Books
Funded Jul 3, 2024A Little Spot of Emotion Box Set by Diane Alber was an excellent resource to have for my students. This school year I have 18 students, but I know that I will continue to use this donation for many years to come.
I used the books during my Social Emotional Learning Instruction time. We have 10-15 min. allocated daily for SEL instruction. I gather students on the rug and I read aloud a book at a time. I pause at different points during the read aloud to have peer and class discussions. I followed the read aloud with an illustration activity for each emotion. After we read all the books in the box set, I made the books available to my students in our classroom library. My students learned about these emotions: Happiness, love, confidence, peacefulness, Anxiety, Sadness and Anger. These books explained in a kid-friendly way emotions and provided a way to regulate some of them like anger and anxiety with a breathing technique and a chant.
We are currently reading the books in A Little Spot Takes Action! Box Set. This resource has books that define character traits and give examples of how students could show that character trait. Some titles we have read so far are A Little Spot of Honesty and A Little Spot of Kindness.
Your donation made a positive impact for my students as they can now distinguish each emotion and label their own emotions. They have also learned breathing techniques to regulate their emotions. It was a great resource for me to supplement my SEL instruction. We loved our books and our 8 Mini Emotion Plush Toys! Thank you!”
With gratitude,
Mrs. Sanchez
