Funded May 7, 2024I was just introduced to Donors Choose about a month ago by a new colleague. The first thing that came to mind was finding materials to help my students review for the upcoming End-of Course test in Math 3. I found the most incredible resources on Teachers Pay Teachers that had been put together by other teachers in North Carolina who had been teaching this course a while. I took a chance, filled out the form, and submitted the project.
My Math 3 classes are mostly comprised of Juniors, with a few Sophomores who started Math 1 in the 8th grade and a few Seniors who took the year-long 2-credit Math 1 course as Freshmen. The course has no physical textbook, but there are the remains of what teachers used during COVID, which I have been using and heavily supplementing. However, I didn't feel I had enough to work with when reviewing for the EOC last semester and had been scraping as much as I could find free. I was still toying with the idea of buying one of the smaller review sets from Teachers Pay Teachers, but my personal funds have been pretty tight, as is the case with so many teachers.
Then, I received a notification that changed all of that. I was truly thrilled when I received notice that my project had been fully funded! With a 25% sale on TPT for Teacher Appreciation Week, I was able to stretch those funds to purchase an incredible repository of EOC review questions, games, projects, and other fun activities! We did our first activity today with matching composite figures to the calculations of their volumes. I slightly adapted it to be done using Google Slides to make it a bit more fun! When we were wrapping up, my 4th period class "invited me to the cookout," which is probably the most heartwarming thing a group of kids has ever said in my 30 years of teaching!
Again, I thank you from the bottom of my heart for allowing me to provide my students with these resources (made by other teachers, for teachers!) so we can all be confident about our preparation for this test. For some students, this will be what helps them cross the stage next month. For others, it could be the difference between qualifying for a scholarship or being a bit more prepared for the ACT. For me, it's being able to go home earlier than the 5:30pm time I have been.”
With gratitude,
Ms. Adkins
