Learning How Color Values and Blends Give Artwork Depth

When my class saw the beautiful big box containing our new Prismacolor pencils, they were so excited.

Our first big project was learning to draw overlapping bubble letters. We traced them in black marker, then blended warm/cool colors from darkest to lightest. As you will see in the photos, students learned new blending techniques. We contrasted warm and cool gradient blends. The vibrant colors blended easily and smoothly.

This gift will last us well into next year and probably beyond. Our spring project will be practicing drawing monotone highlights and shadows.
