Multi-sensory Experience Beyond the Classroom
Funded Mar 23, 2024Thank you so much for supporting my project to bring an outdoor sensory space to my students. The new resources are being used to provide a safe space for my students to get their sensory needs met through play. The space is also used as an extension to the classroom to learn about gardening, nature, and to do STEAM projects. For example: We do a study on gardening. I have various gardening textures in a sensory table for my students to explore (mulch currently). Another way we have used the area is by getting movement needs met. One of the donated items was JOYIN Turtle Balance Stepping Stones. These turtles are used for color recognition and for balance.
My students were delighted when they visited the sensory space. They immediately started to balance on the turtles and practiced hopping over them. The spinning swivel chairs were for sure their favorite. They love exploring the different items in the sensory tables. One of the sensory tables currently have moon sand and Textured Mix and Match Balls.
I plan on extending the sensory area to add a textured path. The path will be made from mulch, sand, stepping stops, wood slices, and other materials.”
With gratitude,
Ms. Michelle
