BHGS Robotics Club!

Funded Mar 18, 2024

I would like to start by sharing one of my students' reactions when they helped me unbox the package: "Oh my! LEGOS, I love Robotics!!". This reaction inspired me to continue showing up for my students even when on the days that I feel sluggish. My robotics students always are the highlight of my day. Once I had finished opening the legos they immediately began to strategize on who would be building and coding.

Using the Lego Spike program my students in robotics were able to practice tier coding skills using Legos, this made coding more engaging and easy to learn. The students were all so eager to divide and conquer all the challenges. I saw my students problem-solve, collaborate, and challenge themselves to create their challenges using Lego pieces. There was a moment in the Robotics club, where students began to create their challenges and had a friendly game of who can build the legos the fastest, or who can code a specific move the quickest. All my students were so happy with the Lego spike kit, that they wanted more! They all wanted to know what was next and if there were more complex pieces they could make on their own.

Moving into the last few days of school students are working on creating a plan for next year. They are aiming to create more challenges to show prospective Robotics students how to think outside the box and make things more engaging. I am hopeful next year we will be ready to take more students into the Robotics Club to continue to support all of my students to explore, be curious, and collaborate among grades.”

With gratitude,
