Personal Hygiene Champions!
Funded Nov 6, 2024I am writing to express my heartfelt gratitude for your generosity in funding our DonorsChoose project. Thanks to your kindness, my students now have access to essential hygiene supplies, including toothbrushes, floss, deodorant, nail files, and toothbrush holders. Your support has made a profound difference in their lives, and I want to take a moment to share just how much your contributions mean to us.
My students, ranging in age from 17 to 21, have a variety of disabilities, and many of them face challenges in developing and maintaining good hygiene habits. These skills are not only crucial for their health and well-being but also for building their confidence as they prepare for life beyond the classroom. Having access to personal care items gives them the opportunity to practice self-care in a structured and supportive environment, reinforcing routines that will serve them for years to come.
Before receiving these supplies, many of my students did not have the resources they needed to establish consistent hygiene practices. Some students lacked basic items at home, while others were unsure how to use them properly. With the materials you provided, we have been able to create engaging lessons on personal hygiene, making it a regular part of our classroom routine. By working together and supporting one another, my students are gaining the skills and confidence they need to take care of themselves independently.
One of the most rewarding aspects of this project has been witnessing the pride my students take in their personal care. Simple actions—such as remembering to brush their teeth after lunch or using deodorant before heading to work-study programs—are making a noticeable difference in their self-esteem. These small but significant changes not only improve their health but also contribute to positive social interactions, helping them feel more comfortable and confident in their daily lives.
Your generosity has provided more than just hygiene products; it has given my students the dignity and independence that come with being able to care for themselves. It has shown them that there are people beyond our classroom walls who believe in their potential and want to support their growth. That kind of encouragement is priceless, and it reinforces the idea that they are valued members of our community.
On behalf of my students and myself, thank you for your kindness and generosity. Your willingness to invest in their well-being has made a lasting impact, and we are incredibly grateful. Because of you, my students are learning valuable life skills that will benefit them far beyond the classroom.”

Fancified Feeding for My Friends!
Funded Feb 14, 2024My students, staff and I thank you for your help reaching our Donors Choose goal. With your help, we obtained new silicone bibs that are easily washed between meals for our students who need help with feeding. We also got smaller scarf type bibs for the students to wear throughout the day to help keep them and their clothes clean. The rechargeable batteries have been a big hit in a toy drum set! One of my students has a severe visual impairment but loves music and has been playing the toy drums in her occupational therapy sessions.
One of the bigger costs of our shopping list was a blender. This blender came with everything we need to blend fruits, vegetables and more for our students who have a blended food diet. We love having two drink containers each with a lid!
Finally, the power strips have given my students better access to charge their communication devices and school iPads. We no longer have a tangle of charging cords all in one spot, but each student has a charging cord near their desk. This allows them more independence when taking care of their belongings.
In the future, we will be making a "mock grocery store" for students to practice stocking shelves, counting and spending money, etc. Keep an eye out for more information on that!”
With gratitude,
Ms. S
