Thermal Comfort in STEM
Funded May 8, 2024We thank you for funding Thermal Comfort in STEM! Our classroom is in the inner coradors of our building, we have no windows for ventilation. This doesn't allow for good air flow and is often too hot. When we tried to plant seeds to grow plants the temperature being too hot, would not allow the seeds to germinate. We requested for four tower fans and a humidifier to aid in the temperature of the classroom. After receiving the fans and the humidifier our students felt the difference in the air. The fans helped the classroom to get cooler. The humidifier added moisture in the air. Our students loved the fact that they felt comfortable learning in a room with better air quality.
With the hydroponic growing system and a greenhouse our students were able to germinate seeds of lettuce, cilantro, marigold, peppers, and beans. They monitored and observed the development of the plants. The students repotted the plants as they grew and watered the seedlings. They were able to see the process of how plants grow from seeds. The students learned vocabulary words such as seeds, soil, water, air, grow, garden, vegetable, fruit, roots, stem, leaves and flower.”
With gratitude,
Ms. Callum
