Access to Reading!

Thank you so much for funding this project. The C-Pen has allowed students in grades 3-6 with reading disabilities to independently access grade-level assignments and to work on them independently. This is important as it allows the students to feel they are able to accomplish the same work as their peers, without an adult sitting next to them. As you can imagine, having an adult sit with you and read work out loud would make a 10 or 11-year old feel very stigmatized. It increases student morale, leads to improved behavior, and allows students to learn at the same rate as their peers.

The decodable books are perfect for my students still learning to read. These brightly-colored books are engaging for 6 and 7 year olds, and allow them to practice the skills I have taught them. Once they have read them with me, they are able to borrow the books for a few nights to read to their parents. They are so proud they can read a book by themselves!”
