Reading Zone
Funded Feb 7, 2024My students been using our new resources daily during independent reading time. I am working to add to my classroom library in our new bookshelf and the chairs and lamps have helped create a student-centered ambience that encourages sustained opportunities to engage with literature! I'd be remiss to not mention that the candy as an incentive and finishing a book reward has been highly successful as well!
The initial reaction of my students was very positive. They loved trying out chairs and in one class, I have had to create a chart so students can each have a turn in our new reading zone! Furthermore, the lamps have been a welcome change from the fluorescent overhead lighting and I really think have allowed students to feel more comfortable and at-home in the classroom.
Moving forward, my plans are to increasing utilize this space and add more high-interest reading materials to my classroom library in addition to the more content-specific ones I have purchased in the past few years.
In closing, I send my sincere thanks for your generosity. It will truly have a positive impact on students for years to come.”
With gratitude,
Mr. Rider
