Make Music and Dance More Magical in Our Classroom.
Funded May 3, 2024Thank you so much for your generosity to donate to my project, Make Music and Dance More Magical in Our Classroom. The students this year have really enjoyed using the scarves, Boom Whackers, and other items to learn about sounds and rhythm.
The pictures you see in our slideshow display one very favorite moment where students were using the tools you have so kindly given them. We were "going on a bear hunt" to practice counting and using positional words such as up, down, over, under, through, etc. The kids had so much fun pretending with the scarves and instruments! We dodged rattlesnakes (shaker instruments), moved through tall dry grass (green and yellow scarves), climbed pretend mountains (with voices echoed through boom whackers), and even around a meadow on fire (red scarves). We also went through a river (blue scarves were waving for this). As we looked for the bear, the Güiro was the scratchy claws of the bear that we could hear when we listened!
Overall, it was such a fun lesson, and these classroom tools will be used in so many other ways as well. Thank you, again, for your generosity to help the students in my class enjoy learning essential concepts using tools that add so much fun and interest. These will be used and loved for many years to come.”

Kindergarten Alphabet Sound Teaching Tubs
Funded Feb 22, 2024I wanted to tell you how much your donation has impacted my classroom... even in unexpected ways! Aside from being able to use these small objects to teach lessons about letter and digraph sounds/spellings to influence their reading comprehension and phonemic awareness, I was most recently able to use these to help them with rhyming proficiency.
Last week was our kindergarten grade level nursery rhymes week. During this week students are taught lessons that focus on fun activities involving classic rhymes and rhyming stories. We even have rhyming snacks! Frog on a log (a swiss cake roll and gummy frog) is a favorite, as well as a pink drink in the sink, and a sweet treat. A gummy bear on a chair is also popular... no surprise there.
At the end of the week, the students participated in a rhyming museum, where they were all assigned to bring in two objects that rhyme, and to display those at their table. All the kinder classes then walk through each of the other classrooms to view all the rhymes from their peers. As sometimes happens, a number of my students did not remember to bring two objects, but, of course, they still needed to participate. I have a lot of fun things that rhyme already, but these are not always as fun as the others they see. The sound teaching tubs that you donated were such an incredible resource in a pinch! I was able to open them up and give students fun rhymes to display including coat and boat, rat and bat (the animal), jeep and sheep, jet and net, and hat and cat. The students were so excited and loved to be included.
Thank you for being a part of our classroom through all your support. These students need you, and so do I!
Have a wonderful day, and a happy spring.”
With gratitude,
Mrs. Lockhart
