Where the Wild Kids Are
Funded May 8, 2024It was so fun to piece together my room this year! It's only my second year with my own room, and I have put a lot of my own resources into making it special. As many of you probably know, it can be a difficult balancing act for a teacher to obtain the resources they need to help their students thrive. I cannot thank you all enough for contributing to my classroom, it means the world to me.
The beginning of the school year has been action-packed and challenging, and has fostered growth on the part of staff and students alike. I could not be more grateful to have this wonderful little corner, brought to me by your generosity! I have named this area the "Story Corner" - and I have noticed how motivated students are to participate in understanding, discussing, and retelling stories when their sensory needs are met. Here you can see two of my kiddos using visuals and tactile supports to retell the story of the "Leaf Thief." In this moment, we are discussing the main character's emotion ("anxiety"), and how sometimes we do not make the best decisions when we're anxious. I have noticed how the story corner has become somewhat of a safe space to discuss sensitive and vulnerable topics that lead to both academic and social-emotional growth.
The last picture is a set of books that we have covered so far in speech therapy with different groups. Thank you thank you thank you!”
With gratitude,
Mr. Tenenbaum
