The Next Big Music Producer

Funded Jan 30, 2024

The donated IPADs provide accessible programs including Bandlab, virtual dj equipment, sound boards, Garageband, and much more. These programs allow the students to have hands on music experiences that would have otherwise been unattainable. The middle school students are exploring world music, and through Garageband, are able to compose their own song within these cultural contexts, using prerecorded traditional instruments. The elementary schoolers are using the sound boards and Garageband apps to explore alternative notations and practice their composition skills within a stress free application.

Thanks to the use of technology, the students who struggle with participation and creativity are able to explore in a success oriented environment. This allows them to engage without the stress of playing traditional instruments. There are many students who have expressed a distaste for music class who now are asking to engage with these new programs and are able to create unique compositions all their own. There are also many students who are now inspired to continue their growth onto real instruments or to use traditional notation. Many students have decided to use this technology in order to assist them with their end of year project as well.

Though these IPADs have already provided so many unique and creative opportunities for these students, I am excited to see what comes next!”

With gratitude,
