PBIS 5th Grade Bee Boxes Project!

Firstly, thank you from the bottom of our hearts at P.S. 185 that you funded this project. This project was created to reinforce positive behaviors in our classroom along with our PBIS system. We have had a tough year, to say the least, and the kids needed something to look forward to earning. Your donations helped tremendously. My students have begun to exhibit kinder and more helpful behaviors. It has also fostered more of a sense of community. An example of this is when students fill up their behavior chart (30 bees are the max), they can place a golden bee on the larger bee tracker in the classroom. They assist each other by helping their fellow classmates calculate how many bees they need to earn to get to 30. The students also cheer for each other when one places a golden bee up. They are genuinely proud and excited for their friends.

The prizes bought by our donors have my students so excited. They love the variety of prizes for each bee milestone. The stickers, pens, and mochies are so cute and what kid doesn't love galactic slime?! My students are over the moon! We earn from the prize boxes on Friday afternoons and during the week, all I hear is "Ms. Jay, are we going to earn this week?"

In the future, our next goal is to implement this type of earning system for the whole school. It would be beneficial to them. We hope our progress with our 5th grade students will take them into middle school wanting to be kind and helpful to their friends. Your donations helped to make that goal possible.
