Listen Up! A Listening Center for Pre-K Students
Funded Dec 4, 2024When I first saw that my project was funded, I was so excited to share the news with my students! We spoke about what a listening center was and what stories we enjoy listening to. We spoke about what a wonderful addition this listening center would be to our library area. Thank you so much for making this project possible.
We received the Lakeshore Best Buy listening center and the audio books in December. As soon as the materials came into our room, the children were so happy. They all ran up to the box and tried to help me open the box to see what was inside. Once everything was opened, everyone wanted to have a turn using our new center. Some students liked to pretend that they were the "teacher." They would show their friends the illustrations and point to the words that were in the book as they listened to the story being read. The students enjoyed listening to the audio books so much, we needed to begin a waiting list so that everyone could have a turn listening to the books, holding the books, and turning the pages of the books. Many families have told me that their children will often come home from school and tell them about our new listening center. They like to share with their families what books they selected to listen to during center time. Our library area and listening center truly became the "hottest" area of our room.
Having a listening center in our room has been and continues to be a very uplifting experience for everyone. It is heartwarming to see students enjoy listening to stories and to want to "read." We appreciate all that you have done to help make this dream come true. Thank you again!”

Funded May 8, 2024Thank you for your generosity. We cannot thank you enough for the cleaning wipes, for the rug cleaner and for the other cleaning supplies that you donated to our room.
The students were excited, and their eyes opened wide as soon as they saw the boxes with the materials come to our room. They were jumping all around the boxes and could not wait for us to open them up. We have been working on cleaning up after ourselves. We eat breakfast, lunch, and snacks in our room each day. We use the tables in our classroom to play, to do artwork and write. The students feel more comfortable having a clean area to do these activities in. We spend a lot of time learning and playing on our rug. The students can now focus on a story being read, participate in a question of the day activity or a whole class graph, instead of looking at all the trash on our rug.
Students shared how they keep their own homes clean. We spoke about how our classroom family needs a clean space to work and to live in as well. Now that our room is clean, we are focusing upon ways in which we can keep it clean. We are working on a schedule so that we can do a deep clean of our rug regularly, this way our room can remain a clean and safe spot to work in. The students are enormously proud of our room. They cannot wait to come in and show their families the new cleaning items and our new rug cleaner. They tell their families all about our latest items, how we received them, and how we use them to keep our room clean and healthy.
Thank you so much for supporting our classroom.”
