Holistic Well-Being

Meeting students' basic needs is crucial for their success in school, as it aligns with Maslow's Hierarchy of Needs. When needs like hunger, safety, and belonging are addressed, students are more likely to engage fully in learning. In Maslow's model, the first two levels—physiological needs (like food) and safety—must be met before students can focus on higher levels, like social belonging, esteem, and self-actualization, which is essential for personal growth and learning.

By providing snacks through programs like Donors Choose, students are more comfortable, focused, and ready to learn. Hunger can be a huge distraction, but when students are fed, they're more attentive, engaged, and able to participate actively. This also helps foster a positive environment, building trust and a sense of support, which is particularly beneficial for motivation and academic success.”
