Achieving Spanish Fluency Through Reading Authentic Cultural Resources
Funded Jan 23, 2024Thank you so much for your support in helping my eighth-grade Spanish 1 students achieve fluency through reading authentic cultural resources! Thanks to your generosity, my three classes—40 students in total—have been able to engage with Qué Tal? Scholastic magazines, which have transformed our learning experience. These monthly issues provide real-world, age-appropriate articles that allow students to practice their Spanish reading comprehension while gaining valuable insights into Hispanic culture. We incorporate these magazines into our lessons through read-alouds and discussions, which not only help students improve pronunciation and fluency but also encourage critical thinking as they connect classroom learning to global events and trends.
The impact of this resource has been remarkable. Many students, even those initially hesitant about reading in Spanish, now look forward to our Qué Tal? sessions. They enjoy the engaging visuals and relatable topics, which make learning grammar and vocabulary feel natural and fun. Some students have even started bringing in their favorite articles to discuss further, demonstrating an increased confidence and enthusiasm for the language. Your support has not only improved their reading skills but has also sparked a genuine curiosity about the Spanish-speaking world. Thank you for making this meaningful learning experience possible!”
With gratitude,
Ms. Martinez
