Multiplication Facts to Battle Learning Loss!

On behalf of the 6th grade teachers in my school, thank you for the generation gift of the flash cards. Over the last few years, we have noticed that students have been lacking in basic skills. The pandemic amplified this problem and we have a lot of students who struggle with their basic multiplication tables. While there are ways to get around this, the more that students are comfortable with their basic facts, the easier things become. As a result, my 6th grade team wanted to do some good old fashioned skills building with flash cards. While there are programs that can help with this, they wanted to use physical cards to have students have an opportunity to have a screen free experience. With your donation, we have secured enough flash cards for each 6th grade student here at my school.

The teachers are doing the following with the cards: once or twice a week, students are given time to review the cards and quiz themselves. Then, they take turns with a partner to quiz each other. This has happened every week since the cards have arrives. and the teachers are tracking progress. First and foremost, the students are having fun with this. They are enjoying the challenge and the fact that they are allowed to go at their own pace. The students are supportive of each other and we are starting to see improvement! We hope that by the end of the year, the class as a whole is more fluent with their multiplication tables setting them all up for future success in 7th and 8th grade.”
