My fifth grade students are on the fast track to college. With the new shift in learning due to the common core standards, my students are encouraged and expected to work collaboratively and effectively. With such a diverse community, there can sometimes be issues with regard to tolerance and acceptance. My students will benefit from rich literature that teaches real life examples of these issues in a way that is relatable and current.
