Therapeutic Yarn Crafting for Stressed Teens

Funded Jan 3, 2024

We can't thank you enough for contributing to this project! The students, my co-teacher and myself all enjoyed the opportunity to develop our creative skills in a low stress environment. It was the first time crocheting and knitting for some, and for others they were pushing themselves to create new patterns for yarn jewelry, tablet cases, friendship bracelets and even crocheted flowers!

My students were super excited that they could take home their yarn and hooks to practice new yarn techniques! Often times students have to share everything at school and are sad when they have to give things back. Usually they don't have resources or know how to invest in getting their own supplies and don't keep up the skills. But thanks to you each student got a ball of yarn and a hook to start and that inspired them to freely make more yarn crafts. Now there are balls of yarn in every book bag and purse, and the clank of hooks falling out of pencil cases. JOY! When a test is coming or they have extra energy, they turn to creating and it helps with the anxiety of being a teen.

We will continue growing together artistically, mathematically, and socially as a small yarn community and perhaps make some appreciation gifts with yarn craft for those who work in our school building. I'm sure the students can think up some awesome future projects! Thank you again!”

With gratitude,

Ms. Rhonda
