This classroom project was brought to life by LOFT.Help Student Hunger!
Funded Nov 30, 2024Words aren't enough to describe our gratitude for your generosity. Their faces lit up once I told them "yes" to their question "Williams do you have something for me to eat". I especially recall a moment one of my students came into class completely out of it. She didn't want to participate, she was agitated and disengaged from the whole class. I went and spoke to her asking what was wrong. She was hesitant to answer but once I asked her, "Did you eat anything for the day". She looked up at me and I could tell just by the look on her face. I encouraged her to follow me to the locker and pick a snack she'd like to eat. She smiled. She picked one up and quietly said, "thank you Williams". Minutes later after she finished her snack outside she came in and asked if she can play on a team for the group activity. That's when I knew that your gift of giving to this cause was worth it.
Keep doing what you're doing, there's so many children that benefit from your giving. My students came daily requesting a snack and I was happy to be able to provide for them because of you. Because of your donations my students were able to build trust in me. They felt like they could trust that I would be there for them because I was able to provide. Myself and the kids are eternally thankful for what you've done.”
With gratitude,
Mr. Williams
End Student Hunger!
Funded Dec 19, 2023Firstly, I can't thank you enough for what you've done for our wonderful students. It's been a challenge going to work everyday and hearing that a student didn't eat. I felt defeated when they'd look in my eyes and ask if I had something to feed them with, and sometimes I'd be able to say "yes" and other times I'd say "no".
Because of your contributions to the "End Student Hunger" project, I have been able to say "Yes I have a snack for you", to all of my students. I've never seen them more excited when they got a snack they enjoy. It not only has brought a smile to their face but they've also been able to overcome academic barriers.
Because of your help, my students didn't spend the day focusing on their growling stomachs and their minds weren't fixed on food. Instead, they centered their focus and mindset toward their academics. Colleagues of mine have seen great improvement in students participation in their classes since this project was funded. After a student was fed, in the very next class it was noted that students answered more questions related to the lesson, asked more questions related to the lesson, engaged in more meaningful discussion with peers, and finished assignments 3-6 minutes earlier than normal.
It's clear that students just work better and are more productive when their bodies are sustained. Hunger can take over their attitudes, confidence, memory, strength, competence and so much more. I'm glad to say that you all have saved a child from the discomfort of hunger during the school day so that those things don't happen.
Keep being an amazing and graceful person, the world needs more people like you all.”
With gratitude,
Mr. Williams
