  • Support Social-Emotional Learning Through Mindfulness and Fun!

    Funded Sep 9, 2024

Thank you so much for your generosity in supporting our school this year! The materials from your contributions have not only enhanced my classroom but have also positively impacted all students (grades 6 - 12) in their advisory classes.

Our school is deeply committed to restorative justice practices, and we've been using the rainbow pom balls as talking pieces during circle group discussions. They have fostered open communication, allowing students to share their thoughts in a supportive and respectful environment. The privacy folders have also provided essential individual time for students who need it. We've seen a significant influx of students learning English for the first time, and games like Uno have brought immense joy and connection to our community. One of my favorite moments was when an advisory teacher shared that they held an Uno tournament in their class. They even take a deck on field trips to ensure that fun and relationship-building continue outside the classroom! It's heartwarming to see how something as simple as a game can bring students together. When our students first received the notebook supplies, their reactions were overwhelmingly positive. They expressed gratitude for not having to purchase their own notebooks and were thrilled to explore the various sticker options to personalize them. These notebooks have become incredible tools for students to engage with their learning in creative ways. By seeing what stickers students put on their notebooks, it helps see their true personalities and help to develop genuine relationships with students.

Looking ahead, our goal is to create a safe, inclusive environment where every student feels valued and heard. We will continue to use these resources to deepen social-emotional learning in our advisory classes, helping students become better communicators, problem solvers, and empathetic individuals. By nurturing these skills, we are fostering a community that can engage in constructive discussions and support one another by continuing to learn more about themselves, their peers, and the world around them.

Thank you once again for your generosity. Your contributions are helping to create a better place for everyone.”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Burke

  • Collaborative Math Learners With Whiteboards!

    Funded Jan 9, 2024

I wanted to take a moment to share with you the fantastic ways my students and I have been utilizing whiteboards in our classroom. The introduction of whiteboards has transformed our learning space into a hub of collaboration and creativity.

One particular moment that stands out is when my students worked together to solve equations and inequalities. They gathered around the whiteboard, eagerly sharing their ideas and approaches, each contributing a unique perspective. It was incredibly rewarding to witness their enthusiasm for problem-solving and their willingness to support and learn from one another. When the students first saw the whiteboards, their excitement was palpable. The idea of having a space where they could brainstorm, make mistakes, and express their ideas freely was met with so much joy. They immediately recognized the potential for interactive learning and were eager to dive into our math lessons with this new tool. Whiteboards allow students to show their thought process, get feedback from their peers, and problem solve towards what they collectively think the answer might be.

In our current classroom project, we're embarking on a deeper exploration of algebraic concepts such as quadratic functions. Using the whiteboards, students will continue to collaborate, share their thinking, and explore different problem-solving strategies. This hands-on approach not only reinforces their understanding of mathematical concepts but also nurtures their communication and teamwork skills. I'm looking forward to seeing the creativity and growth that will emerge as we continue to leverage the power of whiteboards in our learning journey.

Thank you for choosing to donate to our classroom and support future generations of collaborative mathematicians!”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Burke

  • Cultivating a Community!

    Funded Dec 7, 2023

I hope this letter finds you well. I wanted to share with you the exciting ways in which my students and I have been utilizing floor chairs in our classroom! Initially, when the students saw the floor chairs, their faces lit up with curiosity and enthusiasm. It was a refreshing change from the traditional seating arrangement, and they were eager to try out this new learning environment. They love how comfortable the seats are compared to their normal school chairs.

One memorable moment was during our collaborative math project. With the flexibility of the floor chairs, students were able to easily gather around a whiteboard at ground level, brainstorming and solving equations together in a more relaxed and interactive setting. It fostered a sense of camaraderie and boosted their engagement in the subject! With the use of floor chairs, students are able to engage in small group collaboration which therefore allows for individualized supports.

As for our next steps in the math curriculum, we're diving into a project-based learning module where students will apply their mathematical skills to real-world scenarios. Using the floor chairs, they'll continue to work collaboratively, problem-solve creatively, and present their findings in innovative ways. I'm excited to see how this dynamic learning environment will further enhance their understanding and appreciation of both mathematics and their community. We are so grateful that you chose to donate to our classroom. Thank you for donating to the future generations of problem solvers and community leaders!”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Burke
