Graphing Calculators for Advanced Math Class

Funded Jan 15, 2024

Thank you so much for aiding in the purchase of some new TI-84CE (that stands for "Color Edition") calculators. Our Algebra 2 (Honors) class at Reno High has been putting them to good use. They are definitely a higher-end model than our old black and white screen TI-84s.

The ability to display graphs in multiple colors. and readily be able to distinguish which equation goes with each equation, because of its color, is much more helpful to our visual learners. Additionally, they are rechargeable! No more buying batteries and having to dispose of the old ones every couple of months! And, yes, we do use these so much that the batteries die quickly, so it is not insignificant.

Lastly, TI-84 calculators have a "Testin Mode" that disables features that would allow the calculator to do operations that we really want the students to learn to do on their own. Once I put a students' personally owned TI-84CE into test mode, it more rapidly drains their rechargeable battery, so I have to "unlock" the phone after the test - which can only be done with another TI84CE and a data cable. Since my classroom now has a couple of these, I can hold onto one on test day and go and unlock them, rather than having to borrow another student's TI84CE to do so.”

With gratitude,
