Calming Station

The new resources made a noticeable difference in student's lives. When the resources arrived packaged in a box to the classroom, students were curious to see what was inside. I took the opportunity to explain to students, before opening the packages, that people who wished to support them in their learning and success at school donated resources for our calming down station. Their expression was gratitude and awe to learn that people like you donated resources for them to use. Because of this, my students realized that people care about them enough to willingly pay for resources that they enjoy using.

All donated resources were placed in our calming down station for student access. Students who needed to feel better for whatever reason asked for permission to spend time in the station. They truly enjoyed looking through the flip book, using the play dough tools, squeezing the sensory liquid balls, and reading about calming down their emotions. The donated sand timers helped students understand that after they calmed down they were expected to return back to their learning. This helped them transition back to their learning activities successfully.
