Enhanced Physical Education Through Creativity
Funded Dec 8, 2023So far my students have had a chance to use the brand new volleyball net and the new yoga curl up mats! The first day playing volleyball out on the baseball field was a huge success. Many of the students actually said that they liked playing on the grass better. Not only from a player standpoint, but as a spectator perspective as well. I noticed that a lot of my students would sit on the grass right outside the boundaries and the students were cheering on each other. It was great to see how we could use a different facility on our campus for some of the same sports that we teach. I think this would be great for my class because now it will allow me to teach volleyball (court sport) on grass (field sport), which can open doors for what sports I can offer on the courts. At our school we have only two locations with courts and two locations for field sports. The field sports has more flexibility because of all the open space. Multiple classes can be down at the field at one time. For most cases only one class can be on the basketball/ tennis courts.
As for the students reactions they were so excited to play on the new net. They were also shocked and grateful when they found out how much all this equipment really was. My students can't wait for the next opportunity when they can use the new net.
For the yoga mats with the curl up lines it helps keep the lines consistent because usually we use tape on wrestling mats to mark the lines for curl ups. After extended use the tape can move and become sticky. The students also thought the yoga mats were so much more comfortable than the mats we currently use.
In all me and my students are appreciative of all who helped get us this new equipment . This equipment will be a great edition to our program and will serve many more students to come. Thank you so much!”
With gratitude,
Mr. Sugimoto
