A Safe Space for All!

Funded Dec 5, 2023

When students first saw the addition to my classroom they were so excited to know there is a space on campus for them to come and know that anything said will not be shared with anyone unless it needed to be. They know they have a supportive staff member who cares about them as a student and human, not just another number in the system. These materials also gave students a place to study when they were waiting for parents after school. Sometimes, especially in places like Nevada the weather is hardly ever nice, so to have a place where they can study when it was too cold, or next year when it is way too hot makes them feel a lot more comfortable and safe on our campus. A moment I liked about my new materials was a student use it after school to sleep a little because they went the whole day in school exhausted, and just wanted a little bit of sleep before heading home. Knowing my space and new materials safely got that student home, as they were a little bit more rested when they left, and felt more alert, and vigilant. They returned to school the next day, and shared with me how going home was better for them because usually they go home and sleep way into the night and then are up all night. So I helped them get closer into having a normal sleep schedule now that school was back in session from winter break.

Thank you for donating to my project! With these materials I was able to finish constructing my room to make it complete, and ready for students as the 2nd semester started. With these bean bags and chairs I am able to have a space in my room where they can come and relax and chat with me when they need me. Some next steps, are continuing to connect with students on campus, and check on their well-being. I know when I was in high school in CCSD, I felt like a number, and no one really checked on me except for a few of my teachers. So I know that with these materials I can make the impact that should be made as high school students are going through some of the most confusing time in their life, as friend group's change, and classes get harder, and the thought of post-high school careers are being made. I will continue to be a safe space for students who want to vent, get something off their chest, self-reflect, anything they need, I want to be there for them and continue to do so with these materials.”

With gratitude,
