Beautiful Laulima Gardens
Funded Oct 19, 2024Thank you so much for donating to this project so students can participate in art and gardening projects! My students have been able to use the painting supplies to create various works of art, from guided watercolor paintings of jellyfish to wind watercolor art using straws!
The students were so excited when they first saw the supplies arrive to their classroom. It all looked like fun! They have loved working together as they not only paint, but socialize in a new and fun way. Students have tapped into a side of themselves that they haven't had the opportunity to do so. It has brought a lot of fun and positivity to their Laulima class!
Going forward, we are going to focus on the gardening supplies and begin to plant seeds that can be cared for and eventually planted around campus. They will be planting flowers, as well as vegetables. Some students will take their seedlings home to add to their own gardens. It will be a beautiful thing :)”

Funded Jan 31, 2024Thank you so much for contributing to our Pi Day Celebration! The students were so excited when they saw the boxes of Moon Pies arrive, they wanted to celebrate Pi Day early!
The students had lots of fun completing pi-related learning activities while listening to music on the JBL speaker - and not just music they like, but also silly pi songs and informational videos. They were able to use their Pi pencils while solving math problems, like finding the area or volume of their Moon Pies and figuring out how many Moon Pies would wrap around Earth's moon. The students also loved the decorative Pi Day temporary tattoos and they put them on their arms and even their faces haha!
Pi Day was a memorable learning experience for all the students at Lahaina Intermediate School thanks to your generous donation that allowed me to purchase all these fun and useful materials. I believe the students will remember Pi Day 2024 and take their learning far into the future :) Thank you so much!”

Fun Math Buttons for Kids
Funded Nov 21, 2023Thank you so much for contributing to the purchase of a button maker for my math classroom and all the students who get to use it! They were so excited when they saw that we got a button maker and immediately wanted to start using it. Students were able to learn how to use the machine itself and I could see them gaining just a little more self confidence when they realized that something that initially looked tricky was very possibly to understand and use to create something that they got to keep as a memento of their learning!
I had students use the button maker to create "math buttons." They focused on relevant math vocabulary, concepts and procedures that they liked and wanted to use as their main idea on their button. Some students created visual representations that helped them and others to remember the concept or vocabulary word and others created math puns that were hilarious and creative! The students had a memorable time creating their math buttons to solidify what they've been learning and I'm sure they will take this experience with them as a positive memory.
In the future, more students will continue to use the button maker to create even more representations and models of their learning. I can't wait to see what else they come up with!”

Mrs. Dunn
