Creating Scientists

Funded Nov 18, 2023

Your gift for my "Creating Scientists" project has been a game changer for my students. We jump started the our "Hands On Science Classroom" with a two week Boot Camp in December. Students participated in four, significant projects that enabled them to focus on the key learning standard of the Scientific Method. The projects were STEM focused and seemed like a lot of fun. Like any teacher, worth our salt, fun was found in learning.

Students created a log book packet for the four projects. They included building an aluminum foil boat, building a popsicle stick bridge, dissolving hard shell candies to work through the steps of an experiment, and the egg drop challenge. A fifth project incorporated both ELA standards and Science. Students read about living in the Arctic Tundra. They wrote expository essays about how caribou protect themselves in the frigid cold. This was followed by designing a tundra biome that showed how the summer and winter were reflected differently, including how the exposure to the sun and moon changed in the seasons. Students learned and loved what they learned!”
