This classroom project was brought to life by .Igniting Student Interest In Science
Funded Dec 19, 2023I am grateful to share the remarkable impact your generosity has had on my students. The introduction of the new resources, including pipe cleaners for creating DNA strands, interactive plant and animal cell boards, informative posters serving as anchor charts, and an interactive Circulatory system, has revolutionized the learning experience in my classroom. Students with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) often experience challenges in traditional learning environments, and these diverse materials have provided them with alternative modes of learning, significantly enhancing their comprehension and engagement. The pipe cleaners have been instrumental in elucidating the complex differences between DNA and mRNA, offering a tangible way for students to interact with these abstract concepts. When first introduced to these materials, my students exhibited genuine enthusiasm and curiosity, with many eagerly participating in hands-on activities, and meticulously examining the posters around the classroom.
The next steps for my students involve a focus on an upcoming lesson centered on genetics and heredity, where we will further utilize these resources to delve into the intricacies of genetic inheritance and the functions of various cell types. By incorporating these materials into our genetics unit, I intend to guide my students through interactive activities that illustrate genetic traits using the pipe cleaners and reinforce their understanding of cellular structures through the plant and animal cell boards. Additionally, we will expand upon our exploration of the circulatory system, empowering students to piece together the intricate functions of this vital system, leading to a more comprehensive understanding of human biology. The newfound resources have opened doors for deeper comprehension and engagement, and I am excited to witness the continued growth and enthusiasm of my students in their learning journey.”
With gratitude,
Ms. Hamid
