Social Emotional Health and Development
Funded Nov 23, 2023Thank you so much for all that has been given. The kids are able to do and learn in a more tactile way. The Play-Doh allows them to create sculptures that helps them visualize the ideas from the stories. It also creates a nice stress relief, just as with the stress balls, and gives them something to use their hands so they can focus in on the lesson while also being able to fidget.
In the morning, I ask the students to identify their feelings on the feeling tapestry that was given. This allows them the chance to express their feelings early on in the day, hopefully giving them the chance to be more aware of themselves, their feelings, and their emotions. Identifying what you're feeling allows you to prepare yourself for your day. It also helps with engagement. The pencils and erasers are also a good motivator for the students. The bookmarks are used as reading guides during their reading so they can continue to be actively involved in class.
We have also been using the white boards which is beneficial for the students who are able to draw their thoughts easier than writing them. I hope to continue to make my classroom accessible for everyone and these tools have helped that immensely.”
With gratitude,
Ms. Thomas
