Science Supplies Access and Organization - Ready Set Go
Funded May 9, 2024Our school community at MS 278 is so grateful for your generous contributions and thoughtfulness in support of the Project " Science Supplies Access and Organization- Ready Set Go". The Bins were extremely instrumental in organizing our science materials for our new science lab that will be ready for September 2024. Hooray.
We had things better sorted and packed away such as: Chemicals, Microscopes, models, and a variety of lab materials for our different labs done during the year.
The materials will not only serve my classroom but covers a a wide spectrum of grades from Elementary through Middle School. I am excited that this easier access to the resources will strengthen: equity, equality and stir student engagement in Science activities. We are a Tier 1 school, so many students are being exposed for the first time to some of the key resources that are now far better organized and available for deployment from class to class and grade to grade.
Thanks again and greatly moved by all.”
With gratitude,
Mr. Jackson

Funded Nov 8, 2023Re: SPARKING SCIENCE .......Bringing back the Joy to Science Learning
On behalf of the entire PS/MS 278 school community, I am writing to express our deepest gratitude for your generous contributions towards funding science lab materials and equipment for our middle school students. Your support has ignited a wave of excitement and gratitude among our staff and students, and we wanted to share the impact your recent generosity has made.
Your commitment to advancing Science education has directly translated into tangible benefits for our Middle school students and staff. With the recent funding you provided, we were able to acquire cutting-edge materials, and resources that have significantly enhanced our science laboratory. Thanks much for the digital probes, microscope slides, modeling clay, turbidity tubes, pulse oximeters, water quality kits and an array of other investigation materials.
The response from our students has been overwhelming. They are not only grateful for the opportunity to engage in hands-on, experiential learning but are also excited about the possibilities that the enhanced lab resources bring. Your investment in their education is helping to cultivate a passion for science and discovery, and we are already witnessing the positive effects in their enthusiasm for class projects and experiments.
One student remarked, " this was my favorite unit of learning science and I had so much fun! Thank you for giving us the tools to explore and understand the wonders of the natural world." This was following using the tools in water quality and also the pulse oximeter used at a student nursing station.
Another expressed, "The new lab materials have opened up a world of possibilities for us. I can't wait to conduct more experiments and delve deeper into the fascinating world of science."
We had students engage in a unit about water using the various water test kits, probes and digital thermometers to analyze samples of water and discuss the implications for our school and our community. This grabbed their attention as they sampled water to determine the pH, temperature, lead etc.
Other investigations included the study of the human body and using the oximeter amongst other supplemental resources to determine student's health and implications.
This brought excitement to some students that wanted to the student class nurse and do "medical records." And interpret the results for fellow students.
Play doughs were timely additions and were used to construct models such as cells, organs, atoms, DNA etc. and bring to life the engineering aspects of Science.
The Microscope slides brought a sparkle to the eyes of the students as they were able to have a clearer understanding of the human body organs such as kidneys, lungs intestines etc. They kept asking when is the next lab and expressed disappointment if they missed a lab day which we normally try to schedule for Fridays.
These resources supported a diverse range of students including English language learners, students with disabilities and a number of our lower income students that would have had limited exposure to some of these hands-on experiences. This continues to be a game changer as your partnership has helped with educational equality and equity in our community.
Once again, thank you for your unwavering commitment to education and the sciences. Your generosity has made a lasting impact, and we are truly grateful for your partnership in creating a vibrant and enriching learning environment for our students.
We look forward to keeping you updated on the progress and achievements that result from your support. Your involvement in our educational journey is valued and appreciated.
With heartfelt thanks,”
With gratitude,
Mr. Jackson
