New Materials for Newcomers!

My students and I are extremely grateful for your contribution to our learning environment by funding these materials and supplies! I teach over 80 students who are English language learners. Many of them are newcomers to the country (from Afghanistan, Syria, Iraq, and several Spanish-speaking countries), and need rapid English language acquisition in order to succeed academically. The decodable books have been especially helpful when working with students who are learning to read when they arrive, especially if they don't have native-language literacy. I incorporate cooperative learning, hands-on activities, and art projects as much as possible, so the other materials have been put to good use as well.

In order to learn, students must stay healthy, and have their social and emotional needs met. The wipes and hand sanitizer and tissues keep our classroom as safe as possible.
