Reading Is Freedom for the Mind!

Funded Oct 7, 2024

By encouraging empathy, promoting inclusion, boosting self-esteem, and increasing student engagement, books that represent a range of cultures, abilities, and experiences can have a profoundly positive impact in a diverse special education classroom. My scholars can see themselves reflected in stories while also learning about the perspectives and challenges of others. In order to accommodate various learning styles and skills, my scholars are able to select books with suitable reading levels and formats.

The touch and feel books were a really big hit for my sensory scholars. My scholars from all ranges of abilities were able to connect with and enjoy a book. They are so excited to select a book independently each day to read and enjoy the pictures.”

With gratitude,

Mrs. Cooks
