Funded Aug 13, 2024Having more whiteboard markers has been truly such a great thing for my many students in my classes. We are really trying to promote total participation techniques, so every student is learning every moment. One of the ways I do this in my class is to use personal whiteboards at every desk. Having enough whiteboard markers is extremely helpful because we use a LOT. Personal whiteboards in my opinion are far superior to pencil and paper for a multitude of reasons, so I think having these supplies has truly helped a lot.”

Funded Aug 4, 2024I'm going to copy and paste this for both projects since they were funded together and came at the same time and were funded by the same generous donor. We went from using a combination of 4-function calculators all mis-matched and scientific calculators you couldn't see what you had entered, or toggling screens to use desmos.com. These resources were in a shared bin and students had to dig through to find the one they liked the most. During instruction I had to show students individually how to do functions because we had different calculators. Now I can show them altogether, and I see them helping each other learn how to use the buttons and understand how to use the calculators. Also now there are calculators at every table in shared pencil boxes so every student is always nearby and able to get a calculator from their seat. This has reduced set-up time for class, students are engaging with the calculators more.
Another major benefit to this specific calculator model is that you can see what you have entered and the answer at the same time. This trains students to double check they did in fact enter what they meant to.
Students now also all have wireless mice at their computers, and the usability of math software with a mouse vs a touch pad is like night and day. Their frustration is so much lower, and their speed is dramatically faster.
I can't also help but think that it makes them feel cared for and like I have put care and thought into their education, so maybe it's imaginary, but I feel they are more cooperative and relaxed towards me, which of course makes the quality of our relationship better, which in turn improves our ability to learn together.”

Math Materials
Funded Nov 19, 2023Students are very excited for all of the supplies we received from this project. Thank you very very much. Some great things are our clear protractors with arms, they made a huge difference for a lot of students and made learning about angle measurements much more approachable. The also have enjoyed using different tools such as the angle rulers as an alternative way to see and measure angles. I think having the variety of tools helped a lot. The magnetic teacher protractor has been something students are drawn to, and so I have seen great engagement. The compasses were a substantial upgrade from the ones we had and students love using them.”
