Funded Oct 18, 2024Thank you so much for the incredible donation!! These resources improved student learning and promoted positive mental health. When the students walk onto the field they are amazed by everything. They get super excited and start talking with their friends about what activities they plan to do first or what they plan to eat. Without your donations this event may not have happened.
The next step are for those individuals who were able to participate, they are tasked with the responsibility of motiving a friend to improve their behavior, grades or community involvement so that there are twice as many kids the next time we celebrate excellence at Lahaina Intermediate School.
Providing more opportunities to be recognized and rewarded are in the works. These wonderful celebrations are so needed and encouraging to promote positive mental health and academic growth.
Mahalo for helping make this happen.”

Funded Aug 30, 2024Thank you for your generous donation. The students were so excited when the boxes were delivered to the room. Their curiosity made them want to touch or play with the items. It took about 2 weeks for me to model what each item was and how the students would use it to productively manage the classroom behaviors.
Now that the students have "taken over" running parts of the class it is very rewarding to see them work collaboratively. The items help create a positive classroom environment. The student's enjoy the responsibility improving their self confidence and leadership skills.
The next steps involve student voice. By the 3rd or 4th quarter the students should be able to use the incorporate the items into more of our social emotional learning of their choosing. Improved academic output, positive connections and social awareness will all benefit from the donated items - MAHALO!”

Funded May 22, 2024Thank you so much for your generous donations to support our classroom learning. The new materials were much appreciated by the students and I. Although it was near the end of the school year we still had time to utilize the items with our organelles project. After learning about organelles: their structure and functions the students had an opportunity to create their own organelles using the pipe cleaners. Honestly, I think middle school students just loving using a hot glue gun more then anything else. So they were excited to participate in the project.
Tape is used to help organize their interactive notebooks. Over the years I've learned that doing notebooks this ways help keep students organized: they don't lost as many papers and notes and their thinking is better synchronized for test review, finding information....
Interactive noted books and hands on projects engage students in all aspects of their learning. Using your donated items helps me teach communication, teamwork, organization, creativity, and questioning. All things needed to be life long learners. Mahalo for setting my students up to be successful people in the future!!”

Funded Feb 18, 2024Thank you so much for funding Celebrating Excellence!! The material that were funded promoted positive mental health and recognized and reward student success. The envelopes are for our monthly nominations. We have a staff of the month voted on by students (1 teacher), staff of the month voted on by staff (1 teacher), student of the month (2 students per grade level) and Ai Do Kea (most improved 1 student per grade level). Student decorate the envelops. At the end of each month we have a week to submit nomination the vote on winner. Nomination forms are placed in envelops with snack attack ticket. We announce nominees and winners on announcements then hand deliver them to the students in homeroom.
The paper products were used for our 3rd quarter rewards. The ice cream cups were used for our 4.0 club ice cream sundaes. These are students who earned a 4.0 quarter 3. We also used the paper products for our 3rd quarter Wet-N-Wild activity. This is for students who earned good grades (no Ds or Fs), completed 4 hours of community services during the 3rd quarter and had discipline referrals. On April 18th, the kids that qualified had an amazing day. We had 20 parent volunteers helping. The kids got to enjoy the day with all of the food they can eat (shave ice, ice cream sundaes, curly fries, caesar salad, teri burgers, walking tacos, chili and rice). We had a dunk tank, water obstacles, water slides, jumping castle, volleyball, a DJ and more. They spend the day outside eating and having fun with their friends. Your donation made this even possible!!! Mahalo”

Funded Nov 20, 2023Thank you for your contributions! It seems like such a simple thing but it make a big difference for many of my students. 68/147 7th graders lost their homes during the Lahaina fires. Many are still living in hotel rooms having to move every few weeks to another location. Some are living with friends and family, to many people stuffed into a house. The ease of having snacks/food in a cupboard is no longer an option for many of them. Providing them with a health snack to start their morning or have on the weekend is a blessing.
One of the students was talking to his friend when they came to collect their items and made the comment "I have braces but can't bush my teeth after I eat because he lost his toothbrush when we moved hotels". Just having the basics to support their health and hygiene is super important for their growing bodies and self esteem.
MAHALO for making a difference!!”

Funded Nov 18, 2023Thank you for your generous contribution!! Yesterday we gathered the students in the cafe for their SEL art activities. Within each Laulima class (our name for advisory period. Laulima means working together/cooperation) the kids were split into 5 groups. Each group had a task to complete. Before they started the activities we reminded them of the skills they have been working thorough their SEL lessons - communication, decision making and planning, time management and relationships. They also needed their STEM skill. There were 5 tasks: make the tallest free standing balloon tower, create Santa's fort out of marshmallows and spaghetti noodles, build Santa's canoe - needs to float and "hold presents" (marbles), build the tallest snowman out of the given materials, and create a functioning mailbox to mail letters to the North Pole. Each task had directions and a rubric.
Everyone (students and staff) really enjoyed the activity. We had music playing and snacks. It was wonderful way to bring the quarter to a close. I appreciate your willingness to give and make a difference in these students lives - MAHALO!!”

Funded Oct 27, 2023The students are using the items daily!!! Providing the students with basic school needs was a must to help all students be setup for success. The Lahaina fires left more then half of our student with nothing. It was so necessary that they be given school supplies. With all the stress that our families are going through school supplies shouldn't be one of them.
Students were so excited. They continued to ask if they could have more - composition books, pencils.... so they were prepared for school. Their favorite was the pastel colored composition books. At this point every 7th grade students has the supplies they need to start the school year. The next step will be when the need additional supplies all they need to do is stop by my office and ask for replacement materials.
You contribution to get students supplies was so helpful. MAHALO!!”
