  • Future Scientist Something's Floating and Baggie Bubbles Projects

    Funded Oct 20, 2024

Aloha from Maui and the Lahaina Intermediate School 6th grade Science Classroom! Many mahalos ( thank yous ) for your financial support for our title 1 school to get these fun cool projects done this quarter. The kids love real life experiments that help them kinesthetically learn. We really appreciate you and are sending lots of aloha love!”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. House

  • Love 4 Lahaina 6th Grade Kids All Matter Matters Science

    Funded Aug 18, 2024

As a 6th grade middle school science teacher in Lahaina, Maui, HI in a title one school we experience a lack of classroom updated materials as well lower testing student scores. It is my mission to engage our future scientists in real life hands on kinetic lessons so they really learn and know our material. I am not sure why the State of Hawaii has 6th graders doing chemistry and physics, but that's what we are doing... with a smile. Most schools do it in 8th grades or higher.

Our classroom has an old sink and cinder block walls, but I aim to make it as fun and organized as we can using color. All of the supplies I am ordering are to make our projects fun and colorful. We are doing "Something is Floating" using Epsom Salt and baking soda combined to make glass particles floating on the top. Another experiment is "Baggie Bubbles" combining vinegar and baking soda to create a chemical bubbling effect. "Elephant Toothpaste" is another colorful project making a mess - ha, but super fun with peroxide, food coloring, and dish soap. They will use the pink steno notepads for writing colorful data and hypotheses.”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. House

  • Creating a New Lahaina!

    Funded Nov 28, 2023

This is Ms House from Lahaina Intermediate School. I teach computer science and career technical education. Your funds have helped so much with our students being able to feel calm and focused. All of the sanitation supplies, pencils, and bean bag chairs especially have helped make life here in the classroom a better learning environment.

It's hard for the rest of the world to imagine what life is like here for these kids after the fire. This is a title 1 school as well. A majority of the students are still living in hotels. We all want you to know how important your giving is to everyone here at LIS.

If you had a chance to watch the Superbowl coin toss, that was a small idea of the impact of the fires was to the students.

    We appreciate you!”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. House
