Social Emotional Support

Funded Oct 22, 2024Thank you so much for your generous support in funding our Box of Wonders project! The Box of Wonders is a literacy program we started at our school where participating students receive a library book, healthy snack and school supply or stress relief item each month. With your support, we were able to purchase the items needed to make this program a success. When students first received their items, they were filled with excitement. Many students expressed gratitude and shared their enthusiasm about reading books they received.
Currently, students are using their items in a variety of ways. The library books are being read, helping to inspire a lifelong love of reading. Our goal is for students to discover books that they enjoy through the program. The healthy snacks are being enjoyed by students, helping to fuel their bodies and minds to be active participants in the school environment. The stress relief items are proving to be valuable tools for managing anxiety and staying focused. The school supplies help students to be prepared for school.
We are extremely grateful for your generosity for making this project possible. Your support has not only provided our students with valuable resources, it has also created a positive learning environment. We will continue to use the resources wisely so they benefit our students for years to come. Mahalo from the bottom of our hearts.”

Funded Feb 16, 2024The resources that we have been able to obtain through Donors Choose have gone to great use and have been able to benefit our entire school. With the generous donations we received, our library has been able to launch a program called the LIS Box of Wonders where students receive a library book, healthy snack and school supply or stress relief item on a monthly basis. This promotes literacy among the students and hopefully inspires them to find new books that they will enjoy. The added snacks, school supply items and stress relief items add an incentive for the students and excites them about reading.
When students first found out about the program, it was really well received. Many from the school signed up to participate and were very excited to receive their first subscription package. The packages were delivered to their homerooms and given out to students. They were very happy to have a library book picked out especially for them along with all of the other items. Each month, it has been a joy to see all of the students with the items that were provided through Donors Choose and the generosity of your support!
We look forward to continuing this project not only until the end of this school year but also for years to come. With your support, we truly believe this is possible. Mahalo!”

The items purchased with your support provide our students with healthy snacks and promote healthy relationships with others as well. Students are able to strengthen their social skills and form positive relationships with others.

Healthy Bodies, Healthy Minds!

The items purchased with your support provide our students with healthy snacks and promote well being. The games allow our students to develop social skills and help to form healthy friendships with others.
When the students first saw the resources, they were so excited to be able to use them! We primarily have the resources available to the students during recesses and lunch breaks. It provides the students alternatives to playing outside during their break times. It allows them to "play" while also building their social skills and other important life skills as well. We look forward to continuing to further foster and promote a positive learning environment with our continued focus on developing healthy bodies and healthy minds! Positive Learning Environment at LIS
Funded Nov 18, 2023Thank you so much for your generosity and support to make this project possible. With your help, we were able to further develop a positive learning environment at our school. The items purchased with your support provide our students with items that allow them to express their creativity, allow them access to healthy snacks and also make them more comfortable in our Library space. Because of you, our students are also developing their social skills and forming healthy relationships with others.
When the students saw the items that we obtained, they were so excited to use them! The students love the bean bag chair, games and supplies that allow them to create! They immediately went to use the items purchased. Our goal is to continue to have the Library be a place where students feel welcomed and comfortable. With your help, this is possible! Mahalo!”

Funded Oct 31, 2023Thank you so much for your generosity and support of this project! With your help, we were able to have some wonderful additions to our Makerspace. With the supplies purchased, we created a moveable Lego wall with a whiteboard space on the backside of a rolling whiteboard. This allows students to get creative while building their Lego creations! We also purchased games which allows students to build social and fine motor skills.
When the students first saw the Lego wall we created, they were so excited! They couldn't wait to try it out and start building. They immediately went to create their masterpieces on the wall. The students also really enjoyed the games that were purchased through your support of this project. We truly appreciate the generosity of donors and the ability to make it possible through Donors Choose. We look forward to continuing to develop our Makerspace and the program at our school.”

Makerspace at LIS
Funded Oct 31, 2023In order to create a positive environment for our students and inspire a culture of learning and exploration, we decided to create a Makerspace at our school. With the help of Donors Choose, we were able to obtain many resources to start a great Makerspace where students can come and build and explore as they desire to. The items that we were able to purchase inspire their creativity and encourage growth.
When students first saw the materials, they were so excited! They immediately wanted to begin exploring the resources. We primarily have the resources available to the students during recesses and lunch breaks so they can come and make projects as they desire to. It provides the students alternatives to playing outside during their break times. It allows them to "play" while also building their social skills and other important life skills as well.
