Funded Feb 1, 2024Thank you so much for your donation of art supplies to my classroom! My students were thrilled to be able to build these mini community space models with such exciting new materials. They immediately rushed to start playing with the wooden shapes and use their imaginations for what the blocks could become.
The students watched several videos about community garden and public space projects. We had an exciting discussion about how public vs. private spaces function in our city. Students observed how their community had empty unused lots and they were excited to think about what they would turn those spaces into if they had the chance. We talked about how community organizers and activists can work together to make these dream spaces a reality. Finally, we discussed accessibility and inclusion so that all community members could enjoy the public community spaces that they were designing. Thank you again for providing the supplies to help inspire the next generation of artist, activist, and organizers!”
