Help Make Our Classroom Library Magical
Funded Dec 1, 2023On behalf of my administration and students, I would first like to extend my heartfelt gratitude and appreciation to you for choosing to fund my project.
Part of teaching the skill of reading is to help your students learn to want to read. I always tell my learners to think about their personal experiences and interests when selecting books to read. Reflecting on these qualities can help them choose a book that is of interest to them, which will hook them into reading. It is also culturally responsive to give students access to text that connects with who they are. Following these guidelines will enhance a child's willingness to read and improve their reading skills.
The books that were purchased due to your generosity were used during our weekly independent reading time. This was one set class period each week for all three of my classes. Students were given the chance to choose one of the six books that were donated. They met with their groups during the period to read and discuss the book. They played "Read and Roll", which was a game where they rolled a dice to help select a discussion topic. Such topics ranged from character/setting/plot analysis, themes, and making connections. Thankfully, the students looked forward to independent reading each week and thoroughly enjoyed reading the books we received!”
With gratitude,
Ms. PALAZZO
