Spanish Books for our Dual Language Library!

Early this year, our newcomer native Spanish speakers checked out book after book that they couldn't read, because the covers looked cool and they saw their friends reading them. The 2nd - 4th graders, in particular, would go back to class with their English Babysitters Club and Dog Man books, and their teachers would ask me to please try to steer them to books they could read. The students asked me for Spanish books, but we didn't have any. Unfortunately, they weren't interested in the books they could read in English.

When I got these books, the students pounced before I could even process them into our library catalog. I couldn't say no. They've been devouring them as fast as they can. They are so happy with these books, especially with the graphic novels. This small shelf of Spanish books is worlds away from where we started, with no Spanish books.

I thank you for the joy you've helped to bring to our students' lives. Reading opens up worlds, and because of your donations, our newcomer students have stepped through those now open doors.”
