  • “Adopt-a-Pencil-Box” Campaign: a Sustainable Solution for Classroom Supply Management

    Funded Jul 11, 2024

Again, thank your your helping the Hawaiian Social Studies students be able to have their own pencil boxes for the classroom.

    Students' Initial Reactions

When my students first saw the boxes and the tools inside, they were thrilled to know that they would be fostering their own pencil box for the school year.

The Unification of the Hawaiian Islands Trading Cards and Comic Script Projects have significantly enriched classroom learning by providing engaging, hands-on resources that connect students with Hawaiian history and culture. These projects foster creativity, critical thinking, and collaboration among students.

    Our Classroom Use of Resources

In our classroom, we utilized the trading cards to create a historical timeline project. Students researched different aspects of Hawaiian history, designed their own trading cards featuring key figures and events, and presented their findings to the class. This activity not only enhanced their understanding of the subject matter but also improved their presentation skills.

    Specific Classroom Project Moment

A memorable moment occurred when one particular SPED student, who finds it very difficult to read, was able to create very nice and creative trading cards and comic script. By listening to the other students read aloud in class and listening to the lesson videos of the Unification of the Hawaiian Islands, he was able to express his learning in his work.

He was very excited to showcase his projects on what he had learned in class as well as his artistic talent. His classmates showed their support towards him which made him happy. Other students was excited that they were able to remember important information for completing quizzes from doing research for their trading cards and comic scripts.

    Next Steps for Students

As we continue on with our lessons on Hawaiian culture and moving forward to the Pacific Nation in the second semester, students will collaborate in small groups to develop other projects that tells a story based on historical events they will be studying. These project will encourage them to synthesize information creatively while working together. My students says, "thank you for supporting their classroom."

My apology for not being able to get more photos of the students. If I'm able to add more in the near future, I will do so.”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Summers

  • Afterschool Stem Crafts Club

    Funded Apr 23, 2024

Thanks for donating to out program. Your donations made to the Afterschool STEMworks Jewelry and craft projects have had a significant impact on both the educators and students involved. With the new resources, the students have been able to engage in hands-on learning experiences that enhance their creativity, problem-solving skills, and understanding of STEM concepts. One specific classroom project that showcases the utilization of these resources is the jewelry-making and accessories. The students were provided with various materials such as beads, strings, wires, clasps, as well as macrame cords, keychain ring and tools to create their own unique pieces of jewelry and macrame projects such as wall hangers, tea candle holders lanyards and keychains.

When the students first saw the new materials for their jewelry-making project, they were filled with excitement and curiosity. Many of them had never worked with such a wide variety of beads, wires, and tools before. The colorful array of materials sparked their interest immediately, and they eagerly started brainstorming ideas for their creations. They understood that these resources were made available to them through generous donations and were determined to make the most out of this opportunity.

Moving forward from the jewelry-making project, the students will delve into learning about the business side of jewelry making. This phase aims to teach them about entrepreneurship, marketing strategies, budgeting, packaging, pricing products, and customer relations within the context of creating and selling handmade jewelry. By integrating entrepreneurship into their STEM education through jewelry making, students will gain practical knowledge about turning creative ideas into viable products while understanding essential business concepts crucial for future endeavors.”

  • Pacific Nations and Territories Project

    Funded Mar 7, 2024

I am writing to express my deepest gratitude for the generous donation of supplies that you provided for our students' Polynesian Islands 12 Globe End of the School Year Project. Your contribution has made a significant impact on our classroom and the learning experience of our students.

Thanks to your donation, our students were able to create their own individual Polynesian Islands on a 12-panel globe. Each student pulled the name of their island from the mystery box, adding an element of excitement and surprise to the project. The supplies you donated, including materials for crafting and decorating the islands, were instrumental in bringing this project to life.

One memorable moment from this project was when the students unveiled their completed Polynesian Islands to the class. The creativity and attention to detail that each student put into their island was truly remarkable. From lush green landscapes to intricate village designs, each island was unique and reflected the student's imagination and artistic skills.

When the students first saw the materials you donated, their faces lit up with excitement and anticipation, especially since most of them used most or lost supplies given to them at the beginning of the year. The supplies not only facilitated their creativity but also instilled a sense of ownership and pride in their work.

As we wrap up the Polynesian Islands project, our next focus will be on presenting our creations to the rest of the school and take home final projects for parents to see. This will give our students an opportunity to share what they have learned about Polynesian culture and geography with their peers and family. I send you a little peek into our classroom to show you some of the projects, and and smiles on the students face.

Once again, I want to extend my heartfelt thanks for your generosity and support. Your donation has had a profound impact on our students' learning experience, allowing them to explore new cultures and express their creativity in meaningful ways.”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Summers
