Learn and Grow as We Build
Funded Dec 30, 2024The students are using the items to learn about their communities, who live there, what kind of businesses that their communities has, and how can they and their families be functioning members of their communities. The students are excited to utilize the "people" make them move and "talk" as they use blocks to build "communities".
During choice time many of the students like to choose the blocks area in order to build "their communities" and play with the people. This opens up opportunities for peer to peer interaction as well as peer to peer learning. Thank you all for your generosity and kindness.”

Funded Nov 28, 2023Thank you so much for your donations. Due to your generosity my students have been working on their fine and gross motors. The students were excited and could not wait to try the new games. Sometimes, I have to hide them in order to focus and work on other activities. The cause-and-effect toys promoted cognitive development and a range of other visual, fine and gross motor skills. Two of my highest functioning students have been able to use the play food and street signs as a way to work on their communication as well as identification. My earliest learners have been using the dice and the fine motor games to strengthen their fine motor as well as play independently for longer than 2 minutes. On the first day that we opened the Toyk activity, I was only able to keep it out for 20 minutes or else we would not have been able to accomplish anything else in the class since EVERYONE of the students were completely focus on it and wanted turn after turn to draw on it.
There will be upgrading our building (adding an elevator) starting in two weeks and I was not able to set up the supermarket, since we have to move from our current classroom (part of it will be used for the elevator). However, the students and staff are looking forward to when we settle in our new room and can set up the supermarket. We have the books to prepare them ahead of time, to discuss what a supermarket is and what we do in it. There will be a range of learning benefits from identification of items in the supermarket to communication.”
