  • LEGO Robotics for Future STEM World-Changers

    Funded Oct 10, 2023

We have had a wonderful time at Hamblen this fall and into the winter using the LEGO Robotics kits that you helped provide us. During the fall, 52 4th and 5th graders were able to participate in LEGO Robotics club because of your generosity. Now, another 48 2nd and 3rd graders are participating in another section of the robotics club with a primary teacher at Hamblen. Students who participated in the intermediate club are volunteering their time to mentor the younger students, which is great to see! During the 7 weeks we met as a club, students were able to build and program a variety of robots, from moving vehicles to amusement park rides and carnival games. It was so fun to watch the students work together and push themselves to advance and improve their builds and code to make a truly unique creation.

After winter break, I was also able to do a week-long engineering/STEM week using the robotics kits for all 68 5th graders during their science time. I used the LEGO Spike app science unit to present students with the challenge of building an earthquake-resistant building that was testing on a shaking platform. It was fun to see students think creatively and work collaboratively to alter and improve their designs until they found a successful construction design that could withstand the simulated earthquake shaking.

All of this great learning was made possible by your generous donation to our efforts to bring LEGO Robotics to all students at Hamblen. Thank you again for your contribution to a robust STEM education for our students. You have made a great impact on their academic journeys!”

    With gratitude,

    Mr. Barmes
