Give 2nd Grade the Power of Technology

To begin, we are extremely grateful for having our technology request funded. We were amazed at the speedy generosity. The students were so excited to see the new laptops in our class. They have been taking the opportunity to use them daily.

At our school we participate in a daily reading program called Accelerated Reader. When the students read books of their selection, they can come in the next day a take a quick reading comprehension quiz to earn points. This in turn, helps them strengthen their comprehension skills. As they build their reading skills, they earn points towards their individual goals. At the end of each semester, they are incentivized. These laptops have made meeting their goals a possibility. This past Friday a student said, "all I need is one more quiz to make my goal". His eyes were shining with excitement and accomplishment. Thank you Donors Choose for giving my students the opportunity to feel proud and empowered.

In January we begin a research-based project on Japan. These laptops will enhance their research skills to learn what we can about our topics. They are very excited to get started exploring a new country. Once again, my heartfelt gratitude for giving my students "the power of technology".”
