¡Nos Encanta Tocar La Guitarra! <3
Funded Aug 19, 2024It's difficult for me to find the right words to adequately express to you my very, deepest, gratitude for your generous gift of beautiful guitars to these amazing young people. Beyond the initial gasps of seeing them out of the box that first time, fifth grade students are just over the moon thrilled to be playing these beautiful guitars in our beginning guitar unit. In combination with our new-ish baritone ukuleles that I have been acquiring these past couple of years, ALL students now have access to a quality instrument to play. Our school is a Title I, bilingual school, with a growing population of newcomers from Central American countries. Playing and singing songs, reading music and text, is not only enhancing their work in our music program, but is improving our student's reading and comprehension skills. Most of our students have families whose country of origin is in Central America, Mexico, or South America. Our students connect playing guitar with the songs and music they know and love from their families. We now have even more of a means to explore, and celebrate, their culture and heritage through music.
We look forward to continuing our guitar journey in our after-school guitar class that will be happening after our Winter concert, in January. We look forward to further develop our skills for our Spring concert and community performances. And the gift of guitar strings will keep these instruments sounding beautiful for the next few years, so our upcoming students will now have the opportunity to explore and play guitar music as well.
With an extremely limited budget, your gift has given our students a means to play and create that would never be possible otherwise. Once again, thank you so very much for your thoughtful and generous gift and boost to our music program. And for giving our amazing students the opportunity to play, create, learn, and express themselves in a way I would not have been able to provide for them. You have made a difference in their lives, and I am forever grateful.”
With gratitude,
Ms. Button
