Serenity and Structure in 2nd Grade
Funded Oct 11, 2024One fateful afternoon as we walked upstairs from lunch, we passed the lobby where a delivery man had a large, rolled-up, plastic-wrapped carpet. Immediately, I ran to him and asked if it was for me. When he read my name off the delivery label the class erupted into applause. After all, they had been counting down, asking daily, "When will our carpet come?!" only to hear my unsatisfactory reply, "Soon."
And wow, what a difference it has made! Our classroom meeting area has been transformed into a welcoming, comfortable space. Where students once complained about not wanting to sit on the carpet, now they beg to be able to spread out on the carpet for independent work, partner work, and station learning.
Further, the additional materials have provided necessary structure and order in our classroom. The shoe holder makes for the perfect mailboxes. It allows students to easily store papers for home and streamlines the dismissal process. The Art Cart is the perfect place to store our home folders and the Turn It In Bin. This project has made a tremendous improvement in our learning environment. Thank you.”

Funded Oct 11, 2023I continue to be grateful to the Donor's Choose community, especially donors like you. Our classroom, our notebooks, and our bulletin boards have been filled with increasing color thanks to your support of this project!
As these third graders move toward writing stronger, more complete explanations of their mathematical processes and strategies, having access to academic vocabulary and tools glued inside their notebook has been incredibly helpful. Colorful paper fosters engagement and excitement through seasonal activities like Thanksgiving Multiplication Turkeys. Our centers are more organized, and steps for students' tasks are explicit and easy to follow. We are also able to supplement our Guatemala research projects with color photos!
This project and these materials have benefitted the classroom and my students even more than I could have imagined. Your donation has made a tremendous impact not only overall, but significantly in small pieces of our day-to-day classroom experience too. Amplified by the bilingual voices of all 21 students in my classroom, thank you very much y muchisimas gracias.”

Funded Sep 21, 2023I wish I could share the cheers and excitement that echoed through the classroom when students saw the incredible improvements to our classroom library. "It's beautiful!" "I love it!!" "Can we do independent reading all day?!?" were some of the shouts I heard.
Because of your generous support, the library has been transformed into the hub of the classroom. During partner work and independent reading time, students jostle for space in the library overcrowding the area because everyone wants to be in this special space. Thanks to the new flexible seating options, students are now able to move closer to the board during mini-lessons because they can sit comfortably because of the flexible seating options that allow them to sit on the floor, increasing engagement, attention and understanding.
I could not be more thrilled with the transformation and am eternally grateful for your contribution that helped to make this into a reality. Thank you. This has made world of difference in our classroom.”
