Connections To The World Through Literacy
Funded Oct 9, 2023First let me say thank you so much for the opportunity to share my experience as a teacher and how it has impacted my students. My students found the materials donated to be very helpful and educational. Many students walked away with an understanding of my project attributes and its insight to the theme of the project. My project main them was analyzing how stereotypes impacted African American men and women. Much of the artifacts came from pictures reflecting stereotypes that African-Americans faced prior and during world war II.
One student in particular found the assignment to be informative especially when she compared how stereotypes typecast Black women to specific roles in movies and billboards. One student named Heaven in particular compared and contrasted pictures from one of the books I ordered. She was stunned when she learned that African -American women were typecast to movie roles that reflected how they appeared during slavery and after slavery and during the Reconstruction era after the Civil War. Many students came to embrace using artifacts in gaining an understanding I social studies.”
With gratitude,
Mr. Guzman
